Lo-Fi, Sequence, Time.

Experimental music in regional Victoria….

In November 2025, we travelled to Central Victoria to undertake fieldwork, holding a workshop in Castlemaine and, the following day, a performance with the workshop participants in Bendigo.

On Saturday morning we took over the community room at the Castlemaine library, where we ran a workshop to build a Lo-Fi Sequencer. Designed by Andrew Brown, the Lo-Fi Sequencer is a generative instrument featuring controls that allow for shaping the sound and adjusting parameters such as tempo and density. We built the instrument using a prototyping breadboard housed in a laser-cut box. Seven participants took part in the workshop. We spent two hours building the instrument, and in the final hour, we experimented with playing as a group.

The following day, we performed with the instruments at Music. Image. Time., a wonderful experimental event held monthly by Paul Fletcher at Latrobe Art Gallery in Bendigo. Our group consisting of three members from our team and two workshop participants , performed alongside locals Sach Motee & Troy Allan, the Envelopers, Justin Butler and AntPaul Projects. The performed works typically made use of both image and sound. Music. Image.Time. was an engaging event that demonstrated the vibrant experimental sound community within Central Victoria.
