This video documents initial research emerging 2024-2027 through “Cultivating digital music making in regional Australia”, an Australian Research Council Discovery Project led by Andy Bennett, Andrew Bown, John Ferguson, Catherine Strong, Ben Green, Tara Pattenden, Devpriya Chakravarty.
The project involves running DIY electronic instrument workshops across regional areas of Australia. Several new instrument designs have emerged, and several hardware/software workflows have been devised. The video showcases new instruments and intertwines imagery and video from the design and build process into an experimental form. This work is intended to explore what becomes possible when the authors look beyond the design/musical methodologies that typically drive their artistic practice and explore DIY co-creation in collaborative and community scenarios.
